Additional information
Leopold is a PhD candidate at the Energy and Technology Policy Group (EPG) and the Material and Device Engineering Group (MaDE). He joined both groups in March 2021. Leopold is interested in the intersection of battery technology, policy and innovation. The goal of his research is to support policies along the supply chain of lithium-ion batteries to minimise their environmental impact.
Leopold is convinced that policies should be technology-informed to maximise effectiveness and efficiency. Combining policy with technology perspectives, he is also a member of the interdisciplinary Institute of Science, Technology and Policy (ISTP) at ETH Zurich, contributing to the Designing Sustainable Global Supply Chains project (SWISSCHAINS).
Leopold holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge where he focused on climate change mitigation in the transport sector. Prior to that, he completed his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at ETH Zurich. During his studies, Leopold gained teaching experience as a teaching assistant for various courses at ETH and Cambridge. He is also a former scholar of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation.
Leopold gained practical experience during internships in various industries and locations: Automotive (Munich and Zurich), Computer Science (Geneva) and Consulting (Cambridge). As a student representative of his Cambridge college, he was part of the college`s environmental committee and influenced recycling schemes and awareness campaigns.
In his spare time, Leopold enjoys playing squash, mountaineering and (almost) all flavours of climbing.
